New Debit Card PIN Rule

Payment through cards has become increasingly popular in India. To maintain security and keep up with the changing times, the Reserve Bank of India has mandated debit card holders to punch in their PIN numbers during every transaction from December 1. Here are some things you need to know about debit card usage: 1) The RBI rule was first enforced in June 2013 to act as an additional layer of security in transactions. However, banks had requested for some time to update the back-end infrastructure. The RBI had then extended the deadline to November 30. 

 2) As part of the rule, customers will now to have punch in the PIN number after the card has been swiped or inserted in the small point-of-sales (PoS) terminal. This is the small machine that shops and merchants use for the payment. Once the PIN has been entered, you will get the transaction charge slip, which has to be signed.

 3) If the PoS terminal is not updated to ask for PIN, and the transaction proceeds without it, then the bank will decline the transaction. 

 4) The PIN being used here is the same that a customer uses at an ATM or Automated Teller Machine to withdraw money. Do not get confused with the ‘transaction password’ used for online banking.

 5) You will get only three chances at punching the right PIN number. After that, your transaction will automatically be cancelled. If you manage to remember your PIN number after three attempts, you can still use your debit card. However, the transaction will have to be started all over again from scratch.

 6) If you have forgotten your PIN number, call your bank to order for a duplicate PIN number. You will, however, have to verify your personal details like address, email id, date of birth, etc., for security purposes. This will be posted to your address within 7-10 working days.

 7) This rule is mainly for debit cards being used for physical transactions only. There is no change in the way internet transactions are undertaken. The rules for credit cards too remain unchanged.

 8) This is part of the measures undertaken to deal with frauds and security breaches. Other measures include addition of an Europay, MasterCard or Visa chip on the card, establishment of real-time fraud monitoring system, limit on transactions, immediate notifications, etc.

 9) There are over 36 crore debit cards being used in India to conduct as many as 5.54 crore merchandise transactions per month amounting to Rs 8,017.86 crore. There are as many as 52 crore transactions being conducted using ATMs in a month, as per the latest RBI data. 

 10) In contrast, there are 1.8 million credit cards in use. The total number of transactions being conducted at PoS counters too is less at 4.14 crore. However, the total value of transactions is higher than that for debit cards at Rs 10,748 crore.

Also bear in mind that visa-free access, though it may be permitted, is not necessarily a right. Permission to enter a country is granted subject to the decision of border and immigration officers. It’s that time of the year when we start seeing a number of year end list containing ranks and positions of films and stars relative to the year that has gone by. We will witness many such lists but among them the most prominently carried one in the media would be the one listed out by Forbes magazine. The magazine’s lists are like food for the media for a debate and initiator of war among the fans.

Forbes started its listing from last year and in the Telugu film industry they gave the highest rank to Superstar Mahesh Babu. He was followed by Ravi Teja and Pawan Kalyan in the ranking which lead to a furor online. However, what many forget here is that its ranking are based on cumulative earnings from all the movies, brand endorsement etc. Hence because of the advantage of more films Ravi Teja was just ahead of Pawan Kalyan it in terms of earning or visibility throughout the year. Mahesh of course was on a completely different level with Dookudu and all his brand endorsements.

Will it be a repeat of last year, this year as well with Mahesh Babu emerging on top and beating Pawan Kalyan on the way? Mahesh Babu had one release which was a super hit and he has like always, number of brands to his credit which gives him more visibility not just in the state but all over too. On the other hand Pawan Kalyan despite scoring a Industry Hit in the form of Atharintiki Daredi has only that one film to compete with others. He has no other sources for revenue as he doesn’t endorse any brand. What this means is it also reduces his visibility overall. So despite being a strong force locally the star is still lacking on a national level. Will it change this year is to be seen. Celebrities are an easy target all the time as they generate more interest among the common people compared to the rest. The latest example of this misquote mess is actress Tapsee.

In a recent interview to a daily promoting her upcoming release, it was reported, the actress said that she loves Ajith more than Rajinikanth. However the actress said that in the context of off screen behavior where having worked with Ajith on Arrambam, she was bowled over by the attitude of the star. The tabloid made it look like she is a bigger fan of Ajith than Rajinikanth, generally and in a comparative sense, which wasn’t what the actress originally intended. Tapsee when she came to know this clarified once again what she meant on the social networking site that she is part off. The actress really seems determined to not let things go out of hand, good job Tapsee on your part but remember the media always finds a way to twist.

Aadu Magadu Ra Bujji!

It is often an uphill task for small films to survive. On 9 out 10 occasions, they end up as losses and many of them even do not see the light. But Sudhir Babu’s Aadu Magadu Ra Bujji managed to get table profit. The movie was made out of a budget of 7.75 Crore and the movie was sold for 11 Crore. The makers are yet to sell the TV rights of the movie. Gemini TV is quoting 1.75 Crore. So, in all probability, 5 Crore table profit is already on cards which is a significant achievement for a small movie.

Aadu Magadu ra bujji is all set to hit the screens on December 7th. Sudhir Babu is sporting a well chiseled 6 pack body in the movie which the makers say is the major highlight of the film.
